2009 Photos2009 Results2008 Photos2008 Results2010 Race Information About Us The Bear Lake Marathon is made possible by Mammoth Marathons. Mammoth Marathons is a group consisting of three Race Directors and multiple volunteers. Mammoth Marathons goals are to provide races that the whole family can participate in, and host running events that are unique and in new and undiscovered running venues. Mammoth Marathons is achieving these goals by offering a Marathon, ½ Marathon, and 10k. We feel that by offering all three options the whole family will be able to find a race that will work for them. We have also chosen locations that currently do not host any other major running events. These locations are both beautiful and unique. Venue Details The Bear Lake Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K is nestled in the heart of the mountains. This small tourist town is most often celebrated for its large turquoise blue lake. People from all over the world visit Bear Lake during the summer to enjoy biking, running, fishing and all types of water recreation. This is a friendly town with delicious eateries. There is also that myth about the Bear Lake Monster . . . Certification The Bear Lake Marathon and Half Marathon have been given the USATF Certification. The Courses have changed to eliminate the loops through town. These new Courses as well as the 10K course will also be certified again this year. GU, Cliff Bars, Veta Bars and fruit will be provided at every fourth mile marker. Fruit, sports drinks, bottled water and snacks will be provided immediately after the race. Shirts Runners will receive a cotton T-shirt as part of their registration. Runners can upgrade their shirt to a technical running shirt for only $5.00 extra. Please make sure you specify that you would like to upgrade your shirt when you register. Course Details Marathon Course The Marathon course will begin on the east side of the lake. This is one of the most scenic parts of the lake where it has beautiful beaches, fields and mountains. There is little traffic on this side and extends for almost 16 miles. The last portion of the course will continue around Laketown, Rendezvous Beach and Ideal Beach Resort. Ideal Beach Resort is where you will enter on the paved bike trail that will take you to the finish line at the Garden City Park. The Marathon is an excellent qualifying course to compete in the Boston Marathon. Our race has been described as both flat and hilly. So . . . to clear up any misinterpretations we have provided a foot by foot elevation chart to provide the most accurate assessment. (The course has 316 feet of climb and 360 feet of descent in the 26.2 miles. To put this in perspective, we ran the elevation on our college track and found out that it has 12 foot climb/descent for every lap around the track.) Aide stations will be every 2 miles starting at mile 3. Half Marathon Course The Half Marathon will be along some of the most scenic parts of the mountainside and turquoise lake as the sun begins to rise. Seeing the morning sunrise on this lake is one of the truly spectacular events that you have to see in order to appreciate. This is a fairly flat race for the Rocky Mountains will only a little variation in elevation in the first few miles. The elevation chart has a foot by foot analysis. The course will end at the Garden City Park. Aide stations will be every 2 miles. 10K Course This is a fairly flat course with only a few feet of elevation. The first couple of miles are alongside the lake with some beautiful views of the beaches. The last portion of the run is along the paved bike trail that winds along the mountainside cabins and beach houses until you come to the finish at Garden City Park. Aide stations will be at mile 2,4, & the finish line. Photography We will provide photographers that will take pictures during the race and at the finish line. These photos will be available at reasonable prices on our web site. We want you to remember your run at Bear Lake and the beauty of the area. Volunteers It takes over 100 volunteers to pull off a race. So if you are going to be at the race supporting a loved one, or friend and are interested in being put to work while waiting please contact us. We would also welcome any group who is in need of service projects or youth activities. Volunteering is a rewarding experience as you feed of the energy of the activities. Any volunteers interested in helping, send us an e-mail at info@mammothmarathons.org. We will have our volunteer director available Friday from 5-6 pm at the Garden City Park.
